Happy Winter Break!

Dear 2A Families, We have done it! Our last week before break is here. I hope everyone has a beautiful holiday.  Please bring a sturdy bag for Wednesday. We will be cleaning out our desks so that the cleaning crew can do a deep cleaning over the winter break. Also encourage your child to bring their favorite stuffed animal on Wednesday as well! :) LITERATURE Announcing our next literature selection! Please send in your child’s copy of Little House in the Big Woods. We will begin this book directly after break. It will be important for scholars to have it ready and available! SPELLING There are no spelling words this short week. Scholars will be taking 70 phonogram assessment and reviewing spelling rules and manuscript handwriting in preparation for cursive instruction next semester! Please be on the lookout for handwriting homework on Monday. GRAMMAR and WRITING This week scholars are narrating “Alexander the Great and His Horse” and learning how to write direct quotations. PO

Week 18

Good Morning 2A Families! LITERATURE This is an exciting week in literature! Second grade scholars start off the week by turning in their Boxcar Dioramas! We are looking forward to seeing all the hard work that has gone into their creation. We then review and take a final test on  The Boxcar Children.  On Friday, we celebrate the end of the book with a classroom celebration. Thank you to all those contributing to our celebration and making it possible. POETRY Scholars have one more week to prepare "The Night Before Christmas." Recitations begin on the 16th. SPELLING There are 30 words this week. On Monday, scholars spell  except, ant, aunt, capture, else, bridge, offer, suffer, center,  and  front.  On Tuesday, they spell  running, run, rule, carry, chain, death, learn, wonder, pair, pear,  and  pare.  Wednesday's words are  check, prove, heard, hear, inspect, itself, always, something,  and  expect. Happy December 2A!  I hope everyone had a beautiful Thanksgiving break. Onward to December! Time is flying by! MATH This week we are diving deeper into Multiplication with our 2s and 3s. Please encourage your child to practice their skip counting by 2s and 3s at home as this will certainly help during lessons! LITERATURE It is time for scholars to assemble their boxcar dioramas. They are due, Monday, December 9th. We read the last two chapters of The Boxcar Children this week. Our vocabulary words are mills, waited on, and homesick. We discuss patience and hospitality as they relate to the characters in our story. POETRY Students should have their two stanzas as “The Night Before Christmas” memorized and ready to recite by December 16th. SPELLING Scholars will spell 29 words this week. On Monday we spell daily, day, eagle, fancy, fly, forest, freeze, gentle, grow, and holes. On Tuesday we spell hotel, iron, living, live, monkey, myself, noise, pencil, pie, and pull. On Wednesda
