Welcome to 2A!

Welcome to Second Grade Archway Families!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Guevara. I am absolutely delighted to serve as your child's second grade teacher! This will be my fourth year serving at Archway Arete and my first year as a lead! I am looking forward to partnering with you (parents/guardians) as we venture through the many exciting twists and turns of education, keeping with the mission and purpose of Great Hearts (truth, beauty, and goodness!). The ultimate goal is to keep your child safe, welcomed, and enable them to be able to flourish in a learning environment where they are free to develop and grow. Throughout the year, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I cannot wait to be able to build our own community of explorers, scholars, and scientists! I am excited to meet you all!

A little background about myself:

If you've been part of the Arete Family for several years, you might have previously known me as Miss Smith! I'm a newlywed / new stepmom as of June 24th :)
I have spent most of my life in Arizona, however am a southern gal at heart! My dad's side resides in Memphis and mom's side is from Alabama and Barbados. Thanks to this, I have a bias for sweet bbq and cajun spice! I graduated from Grand Canyon University spring of 2018 with my bachelor's, and have worked in education for at least 7 years as a special needs rehabilitator, behavior coach, tutor, and finally joining the Arete community years ago. In my free time, I love studying fashion, studying different languages, and watching House Hunters with my husband.
Meet our wonderful assistant, Mr. Kiehne!
"I recently graduated from Grand Canyon University, where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Studies as well as a Minor in Psychology. Things I love to do in my free time include reading, writing, hiking, kayaking, camping, listening to podcasts, and more reading. I also enjoy a nerdy obsession with comic books and Harry Potter. Unfortunately, I follow my hometown Arizona sports teams closely, which has led to lots of personal disappointment over the past few years."
Volunteering/Classroom Parent: In order
to volunteer in the classroom this year (including field trips and visiting for lunch) you will need to have your Fingerprint Clearance Card. Fingerprinting will begin at 4:30 in the MPR this evening. Please be on the lookout for SignUps throughout the year for volunteer opportunities such as reading groups, math groups, and Friday Folders.

Would you be interested in serving as our classroom parent this year? Please let us know! Classroom parents can be a mom or dad (a team of 2) willing to help plan classroom celebrations, send communication out to families about PSO events, and help make SignUp genius links for classroom volunteering. If interested, follow this LINK

Getting to know you: When you have a moment, please fill out this Parent/Student Survey to help us gather some important information for our year together. We look forward to learning more about your child!

We look forward to meeting you this evening and cannot wait to see your smiles!
