Week 11

Good morning 2A Families,

Just a reminder, this week consists of half days for our conference! Dismissal is at 11:45 for first pickup, 12:05 for second pickup and 12:35pm for third. There will be no tutoring this week as well due to conferences. There will be no lunch served, however we recommend going forward supplying either a large snack or two snacks. 2nd grade will be having their second snack closer to 11am. If  you have not signed up for conferences, please follow this link:


If you are unable to make any of the remaining times listed, please reply to this email so that I may schedule a phone conference with you next week! 

Introducing the The Boxcar Children Diorama project!
Using a shoebox, scholars are going to create a diorama showing the Alden children’s home— the boxcar! They will decorate the outside of the box to look like a boxcar and include five specific items from the story that show how the children have turned their shelter into a home. This assignment will not be due until the 9th of December. Most of the work for this project will be completed at home. Please watch for the rubric coming home this week.

POETRYScholars should be focus on memorizing the last four lines of the second stanza of "Merry Autumn Days" by Charles Dickens. Recitations begin Tuesday, October 29th.

SPALDING
There are 30 words this week. On Monday, we spell push, point, within, body, field, belongs, cheese, earn, edge, feather. Tuesday's words are fence, funny, going, honey, letters, orange, pocket, shoes, shoe, stairs. Wednesday's words are stream, talks, tiny, words, trust, extra, dress, beside, teach, happen.

GRAMMAR & WRITINGSecond grade scholars add The Article Adjective Jingle to their repertoire this week. They learn to how to classify article adjectives as well.


MATH
We are finishing up our length unit with some quiz check-ins! If you have not sent your child with a ruler to school quite yet, please do so. Emphasize with your child that when they are measuring something, they start at the 0 and not the 1! We are looking forward to meeting everyone at conferences!

There will be no science or history for week 11 due to conferences.

Week 27: Field Trip!

Hello 2A Families! FIELD TRIP Our field trip to the Pioneer Living History Museum is on Friday, March 20! We will be leaving at 8:15 am and returning around 2:00. A   permission slip  has already been sent  home in your child's homework folder.  If you would like to chaperone this fun field trip, please email me by Wednesday, March 4 . We will select and send more information to chaperones after that date. Please be sure your child brings the following:  Sack lunch (everything should be able to be thrown out after eating) Disposable water bottle Wear tennis shoes and sunblock Hat & sunglasses (optional) MATH We are finishing up our money unit with understanding equations and word problems. Week Seven

LITERATURE We are reading Chapters 20-22 of  Charlotte’s Web  this week. We will continue to discuss humility, but will also find out how humility is related to friendship.  Here are the vocabulary words we will look at:  triumph, supernatural, unconscious, desolation, monkeyshine, mimicked, hallowed, pledge, garrulous. SPELLING There are 20 spelling words this short week. On Tuesday, we will spell catch, catcher, kitchen, butcher, black, warm, unless, clothing, clothes, clothe.  On Wednesday ,  we spell  began, begin, begun, able, gone, go, done, do, suit, track.   Please continue to dictate each word one and at time to your child as he or she practices them each evening. Ask your child to tell you when and where we use “ck” in a word.   POETRY Your child should have “Something Told the Wild Geese” memorized by the end of the week. We begin recitations on Wednesday by invitation. Please refer to the recitation rubric to help your child prepare to recite with confidence.
